Long Hill Fire District history

The Long Hill Fire Company was organized on December 11, 1919, but as Long Hill grew, they realized that greater organization by the Fire Company was needed and so became The Long Hill Volunteer Fire Company #1, Inc. on March 8, 1921.  By 1929, the Long Hill Volunteer Fire Company #1, Inc. knew they would need equipment and a firehouse to protect the growing community and so on November 22, 1929, the residents and taxpayers of Long Hill voted to establish the Long Hill Fire District.

The first officers elected to the Long Hill Fire District were David Cronin, J.M. Snyder and Dr. C.E. Atkins.  B.S. Beach was named Tax Collector, Charles A Bradley was Treasurer and L.W. Sherman, Secretary.

After this the Fire Company and the Fire District worked hand in hand, the Company supplying the manpower and the district purchasing equipment to be used by the firemen of the Company.  An item of major importance was the district meeting in April, 1930 at which time it was voted to raise revenue through a fire tax of 2 mils to provide for this equipment.

In further defining the establishment of the Fire District, a motion was carried on June 1, 1930 that the purpose of the Long Hill Fire District shall be the protection of life and property from damage and destruction by fire.
